Artificial Intelligence seems to be taking over not only the sciences but society itself. In just the past few years, many people have begun to feel that its rapid growth in nearly every sector of society poses a kind of threat - that simply put, this technology is going to advance, with or without our having any say in just how it develops. One serious response to this here in Slovakia is the existence of Slovak.AI, an organisation still in its infancy. I spoke with two of its leaders at a conference organised by the group in early March. What would make a young man with an all-consuming passion for theoretical physics take on a second all-consuming passion - the monumental task of adopting and raising several Roma children from eastern Slovakia? We talk to Daniel Nagaj of the Slovak Academy of Sciences to find out.
